Kanu Sanyal: -
Kanu Sanyal is named as the father of the Naxalite movement and an influential leader. Kanu Sanyal was born in the village of Karsiang in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, his father Anand Govind Sanyal was employed in a court.
Kanu Sanyal dropped out of school and started working at the Kalingapong Court in Darjeeling, where the Indian Congress was in power at the time, with Chandra Rai as the Chief Minister of Bengal. One day, Kanu Sanyal protested against the Chief Minister of Bengal by waving black flags. Kanu Sanyal was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. In the same jail, Kanu Sanyal met Charu Mujumdar, the two leaders, and the two became close friends. Kanu Sanyal later accepted the membership of the Communist Party of India.
Kanu Sanyal took a number of actions to promote Naxalite ideology by holding hands with activists who aligned themselves with his ideology and played a leading role in it.
